Holden Young & HY3
The sound of HY3 is funky. They have a rhythmic connection that appeals to listeners and dancers alike. With rock-steady grooves, intricate bass-lines and hard-hitting guitar HY3 is "accessible to anyone who enjoys music."
Holden Young may best be described by the groups he has opened for in the past 3 years in the Colorado/Rocky Mountain music scene; JJ Grey & Mofro, the Disco Biscuits, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Freekbass, Rose Hill Drive, the Motet, Outformation and many other local acts garnering support in his area. After graduating Berklee College of Music in Boston and spending 3 years working on his trade in Nashville, Tennessee, Holden is now proud to be a major upcoming figure in the Funk/Rock/Reggae/Original local & national circuit. A power-trio of bass, drums, guitar & voice, the HY3 outfit is touring regularly and constantly adding new material & new inspirations to their already outstanding set of original music.
Bassist Billy Franklin, while on tour with New Orleans originals Atman Roots, ended up in the same mountain town as Holden in 2005. A New Orleans native relocated to Colorado after Hurricane Katrina, Franklin brought along his rich knowledge of music from Jazz to Hip-Hop. Completing the trio is drummer Eric Rolls. Also moving to Steamboat in 2005, Rolls' other life as a professional snowboard coach & competitor complements his hard-hitting funk drummer style.
"Listeners may come to know him as a leading musical stylist during this time of unprecedented cultural heterogeneity." - Dave Caddell
